A Research On Intellectual's "Xiye" And "Qiuju" In Locality In Tang Dynasty

From the Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty, much importance had been attached to the selection of reserved students. And the reserved students had to pass exam of all levels, then they would have the chance to join the exam of reserved official. This system was called selection officials by exam, which became a mature system since Tang Dynasty. Despite its importance, the academy paid little attention to the students' study and the road to reserved officials , which is the core of this essay. "Xiye" , means the study aiming at passing the official selection officials exam: and "Qiuju" means the students' study to gain the chance to the final entry exam of reserved officials. On the basis of research, the essay claims that there are differences between noble and normal people in study and entering selection exam before and after the emperor Dai and De. which effected the interaction of all estates. With the materials such as official history books, letters, documents and catalogues, especially the novels and dailies in "Five periods", in addition to tomb marks, this essay carries out its analysis, which is divided into four parts. The preface points out the questions and makes review of the research history, and epilogue gives a conclusion of the whole essay.The first chapter discusses the local official way of education. The local official way of education included province-level, town-level and country - level education. This kind of education gained its prosperity after Kaiyuan, Tang Dynasty, which faded away after that time. On Yuanhe 6th, Xianzong emperor, the middle sized and the small sized province-level were abolished , and the province-level education became less and less. In Tang Dynasty, the province-level doctors of official education were. selected by official Human Resource department, and the town-level doctors, the country-level doctors and the teachers were provided by local government. The administrators included two kind of people: the official came from exam, or the scholars who did not become officials. And sometimes monks with broad knowledge also could get the position of administrator.
