The study of job satisfaction is very helpful to enhance management. Based on the review of the relevant theories, definition, nature, influential factors, dimensionality, measurements of job satisfaction, this study investigates the job satisfaction among civil servants of Local Taxation Bureau of Hunan Province.In the prepared research,the preceding research and the formal research, 289 civil servants from this bureau are random sampled. Employing the means of exploratory factor analysis , we have designed a job satisfaction questionnaire for this bureau, and validated its reliability and validity. In addition, with the means of some statistic methods such as t-test, One-way ANOVA and multiple stepwise regression analysis, we discuss how each dimensionality and the demographic variables influence the job satisfaction. Following are the findings of the survey:(1) The job satisfaction questionnaire for Local Taxation Bureau of Hunan Province is composed of eight dimensionalities and 48 indexs. It is acceptable because its Cronbach Alpha coefficient reliability is as high as 0.974, and its content validity , construct validity and criterion-related validity are all acceptable.(2) Concerning total level or each dimensionality, civil servants of Local Taxation Bureau of Hunan Province express their job satisfaction at a medium level.(3) The results of multiple stepwise regression analysis show that according to the contribution to total score of job satisfaction, each dimensionality are ranked as follows: management and leadership, fair promotion, pleasure in work, harmoniousness in work , self-determination, convenience, impartially distribution, comfortable working condition. (4) The results of multiple stepwise regression analysis show that the most important two demographic variables influencing job satisfaction are gender and the years holding a position. Females are significantly more satisfied than males. Job satisfaction has remarkable negative association with the years holding a position. Each dimensionality of job satisfaction will be influenced by some demographic variables to various degree. (5)The previous findings authenticate Two-Facors Theory : only Motivators can result in job satisfactory. The absence of Motivators is the most important reason why job satisfaction of civil servants of Local Taxation Bureau of Hunan Province have not reached high level.Finally, based on the previous findings of this study combined with relevant theories of job satisfaction some pieces of advice are presented for the reference of the departments of policy-making and human resources in our government.
