To enhance quality-oriented education and the all-round development of students has become one of the essential points of higher education. The Artistic Education Development Plan of National Schools from 2000 to2010 pointed out that the main task of school artistic education is curriculums and teaching, high schools will carry out the new artistic curriculum standards in 2005 and universities must consider the real situation and diversify the artistic elective courses and restricted elective courses in order to satisfy different students' learning needs. In this article, oriented to spread the popularity of common required music courses, the author conducted the survey on common required music courses offered in the universities and made an elaborative analysis on and put forward a new curriculum establishment which differs from the specialized music courses and also from secondary education in terms of knowledge level and content.The main methodology in this article was investigation. And the research conducted in five universities of Shanxi Province, including science and engineering university, finance and economics university, comprehensive university, medical university and teachers' university. The participants consisted of students from different majors and grades of these universities, common required music course teachers, music educational experts, the leaders in charge of artistic education in these universities and teachers from non-music majors. The research questions of the investigation included: the current curriculum situation of these universities ; the students' real needs and interesting points to common required music courses; the advice and suggestions of common required music teachers ; the opinions of high leaders to the curriculum establishment; the opinions of music educational experts and teachers of non-music majors.On the basis of investigation, the author made an analysis and pointed out the strong and weak points and also the problems and special emphasis for the future reform of the current curriculum. The research mainly focused on the students' real needs. The investigation results showed that music appreciation cannot satisfy the students' real needs now, they turned to have the strong intention of mastering it in order to truly feel the music, play musical instruments and even create music. The current university students belong to the examination-oriented generation, secondary music education is still in low level. With the questions, "how to make students learn music and master the music skills in common required courses quickly and how to teach the common required music courses", the author in this article put forward the curriculum establishment. According to the students' learning needs and teaching content, the constructive idea of the curriculum establishment can be classified into three aspects: practice courses, appreciation courses and the combination of the theory and practice courses. The author attempted to put forward an ideal curriculum establishment and provided a useful reference for other universities, however, other universities needed consider its own situation. The constructive idea of curriculum establishment of universities should be in line with secondary education and also keep pace with the times to meet the new situations and needs of current students.
