This study measures the relationship among anxiety, parental rearing pattern and self-esteem of freshmen in college, and establishes the model of their relationship, using state-trait anxiety inventory by Spielberg, EMBU revised by Yuen Dongle, the self-esteem scale by Rosenberg. We put forward some countermeasure to lighten the anxiety of freshmen in college to provide some reference for mental heath education workers. The results show that: anxiety level of freshmen in college is significantly higher than the national average. Students from countries show significantly higher anxiety than those from cities. In addition, students of non-singleton show higher state anxiety than singleton. In parental rearing pattern, there are differences among sex, singleton and non-singleton, students from cities and countries; parental rearing pattern is also influenced by parents' education background. In self-esteem, there aren't differences among sex, singleton and non-singleton, students from cities and countries; It isn't also influenced by parents' education background. Anxiety of freshmen in college presents negative correlation with warm feeling and understanding from their parents; and it presents positive correlation with punishment and severeness, over-interference, refusal and deny from their parents; so does self-esteem. Self-esteem directly predicts anxiety. Father's warm feeling and understanding, punishment and severeness, over-interference, together with mother's punishment and severeness directly predict the anxiety level of freshmen in college. Punishment and severeness from father can influence anxiety indirectly by self-esteem.
