This thesis focuses on American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (A.B.C.F.M.) , one of the Protestant Missions coming in China, outlines its activities in the north of Fujian from 1873 to 1949, and searches for the relationship between Christianity and the local society in the north of Fujian on the base of recovering the history before one hundred years as actually and carefully as possible. The conclusion is: the diffusion of Christianity in the north of Fujian, whatever the methods or the distribution of missionizing, not only responds to the national tendency but also has the particular local trace, moreover constitutes a typical case of the regional diffusing history of Christianity; the relationship between Christianity and the local society in the north of Fujian, contains the abundant the flavor of the times and the profound cultural connotation, and reflects on the cultural communicating facts between Chinese and the western countries from indirect sources in modern times; furthermore, Christianity also exert a tremendous influence on the development of the history of modern society in the north of Fujian.
