| The sentence is the basic unit of one language, which can express people's idea. With the development of linguistics theory, the study of the characteristics of the sentence is deepened. Different language types have different characteristics which are reflected by the sentence. The different characteristics of English and Chinese sentence just reflect the different features of these two types of language.This paper consists of five chapters. The introduction deals with the purpose and significance of the study. Some concepts in semantic linguistic study and the breakthrough in Chinese linguistic theory study are also touched upon.Chapter 1 introduces the definitions of English and Chinese sentences which show English sentence with grammatical feature and Chinese with semantic feature. And the theory background and Zi-center theory and semantic grammar are introduced to be the theory basis of this paper.Chapter 2 analyzes the formal feature of the English sentence from the aspect of the subject-predicate structure and connective devices. The indispensable subject, together with the predicate verbs forms the kernel of a sentence, which controls all other linguistic elements in a sentence. In English, cohesion is overt using prepositions, coordinators and subordinators to make a sentence reflecting the hierarchical logicality?Chapter 3 elaborates the semantic feature of the Chinese sentence. From the aspect of the argument-predicate (topic-comment) structure, flowing-water sentence, the mood device of making a sentence and antithesis sentence, Liejin sentence to illustrate the semantic feature of Chinese sentence. Chinese is non-inflectional language, so it cannot be studied by the formal analysis device. In the argument-predicate structure, great deals of flowing-water sentence exist.
