The media obtain world news mainly through three sources: telegraph news, reports filed by the media's overseas journalists and correspondents, and news from overseas radio and television broadcasts. The world's famous news media generally have their own translators whose work helps facilitate reporting of international affairs for their media. The major Chinese media are no exception. Among others, foreign radio news reporting is a significant channel for the mainstream Chinese media to receive information. Therefore, translating English broadcasting news plays an essential role in the whole reporting process.With the example news from the world's major radio stations (for instance, VOA1, BBC2, Radio Australia), this thesis makes an analysis of the features of this kind of journalistic English and then tentatively suggests the principles and strategies for translating it into Chinese.Being a branch of English news, English broadcast news shares the general features of the latter. Nevertheless, this is by no means to say English radio news has no unique characteristics! The most basic difference between English radio news and news writings for other media is that the former is transmitted to people through the audio organ while the latter by means of the visual one. In view of this difference, English broadcasting news is made more easily understandable, brief and clear, which enables listeners to"catch"the fleeting and passing information. This thesis first provides an overview of the English radio news at various levels: structural, broadcasting, linguistic and rhetorical features.However, this thesis will not confine itself to the list of the features of the English broadcasting news, but rather, go further to crack the hard nut on the basis of the these features, that is, the guiding principles and strategies for the translation of the English radio...
