The objective of this research was to study the situation and problem of primary Chinese teaching school in Thailand. The study method is an integration of qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative information was collected from all head teachers in Chinese teaching school of Thailand using post questionnaires which were sent back 58 questionnaires (51.33 %). The qualitative information was collected from 15 head teachers using telephone questionnaire for in-depth interview in every part of Thailand.Chinese schools in Thailand scatter generally, especially Bangkok that has Chinese schools more than northern, southern and northeast part of Thailand. In middle part of Thailand has average 2 Chinese schools on per province. Most Chinese schools is private day school and operate Chinese teaching for 50 years ago. But students have opportunity to study Chinese language only in study time because they do not use Chinese language in daily life style. Although, the students are from Chinese family but parents cannot speak Chinese language. Furthermore, Chinese teaching in Thailand is not continuing and, when students pass to secondary school, their parents must pay attention in grade that have result to the examination for entrance to the best university more than Chinese language. So interesting in Chinese language will be decreased.Present Chinese language teaching programs change from original letter to modern letter due to influence teaching materials from china which are applied to Chinese language the teaching of programs for each school. However, Thailand Chinese schools do not have standard teaching program and standard test for student that finished Chinese language program from these schools. Also, Chinese language teaching programs for primary and secondary schools and university level must start at begin level. So students that used to study in primary schools do not study Chinese language in secondary schools. Then students received little Chinese language knowledge and they will forget it soon.Main problem of Chinese language teaching in Thailand is personal problem. Most Thai teachers are in Bangkok but other region has less teachers. So they must looking for teachers from China. These Chinese teachers are bachelor degree in Chinese language but they have very little experience in teaching and come to find experience in teaching for short term before go to study master degree. Other problem is media which have very few in Thailand and is not attractive to students for develop Chinese language knowledge any more. The last one is standard teaching program that is appropriate to Thai student. So Chinese language level of students from each school will different due to Chinese language program which each school provided.The results of this research could be a guide for development Chinese teaching programs in Thailand. The government should develop Chinese educational person and continuity appropriate media and standard teaching programs for teaching. Then students will learn to understand and apply in daily life.
