| The process of industrialization and urbanization have exercised great influences on the floating populations' language and psychology. A sociolinguistic survey were carried out to study the floating populations' language attitudes towards Mandarin, Cantonese, English and their mother tongue in industrial estate in Dongguan, mainly using questionnaire ,along with methods of interview and observation. The findings of the study can be summed up as follows:(1) Mandarin was the language of prominence prestige in industrial estate. Floating populations' mother tongue was considered the kindest one. Mandarin, English was the most useful language; however, English carried greatest status value. Although Cantonese got low evaluation, it was still considered one of the most important languages in Guangdong province.(2) The data suggested the factors of gender,age,education and time they living in Dongguan affected their language attitudes.In addition, personal social network, the promote desired in social ladder , individual psychology confidence affected people's attitudes and behavior tendency.(3) Mandarin became popular in industrial estate because of mass floating population; actually, "Mandarin Island" was already shaped. And on this "island", different dialects were used in some informal occasion.Most of the floating people intended to choose Mandarin, English, and Cantonese as their children's education language. As a result, there would be more personal bilingual or multi-language phenomenon in several years, and this would promote the industrial estate into a bilingual speech community.(4) Living in industrial estate, Floating populations' Mandarin competence was heightened. However, the language they mastered was single.(5)The foreground of dialects was not so bright. Floating populations' mother tongue didn't carry any status value, nor had any developing future in Dongguan. We should highlight self-identity and consciousness of protecting on it.
