Fang xiaoru is a famous thinker and litterateur during the early Ming Dynasty . He was praised as "the reappearance of Cheng-Zhu" and "the model of scholar-officials" .His standpoint of literature was influenced by his life experience and "Daoxue" ideology, so he advocated the function of literature is to convey the Tao, literature and Tao should be combined into one, and clearer understanded was the Tao, the more forceful was the literature. In literary creation, he standed for following the example of the ancients, but not rigidly adhere to them. He held that the literature should be simple and unadorned, should not be eccentric and odd. He fought against the fashion of overworkshiping Tang Dynasty and playing down Song Dynasty. The key research point of this thesis is Fang xiaoru's viewpoint of literature, in order to reflect his literary position truly and completely by analysing his poetry and prose.
