This essay mainly discusses the process of the Eisenhower administration's aid policy to Taiwan. After the Geneva conference ,America gradually adjusted its Asia-Pacific policy in order to prevent the subversion to this area by communist. And America considered China as the greatest menace to Asia-pacific area. Taiwan question obviously was a key to pin down mainland. This article mainly centers on American's National Security Counsel documents NSC146/2, NSC5503, NSC5723, making an investigation of the process of aid policy to Taiwan , and make a further study of its characters and influences from different angles. My views are as follows: 1.In the light of the policy of containment China in the Cold War period, the Eisenhower administration made the aid policy to Taiwan. And the aid policy not only inherit the character of the Trumen administration's aid policy to Taiwan, but also it has great influence on the Kenndy administration.2.America's aid to Taiwan was military at the outset, beginning in 1950, The economic aid started in 1951, during the whole Eisenhower administration . America's economic aid to Taiwan was basic consumer goods in 1951-1954.After 1955,turning to capital commodities .During the whole 50s, military aid is the main component of America's aid to Taiwan, for dealing with China's agression to some area in Asia. 3.America's aid to Taiwan had some limitation ,viewing it as an important weight to tie up Chiang Kai-Shek regime and mainland ,maintaining the status quo of Taiwan separating from China for a long period of time.
