Creative thought refers to mankind's thought activities intended to seek new achievements and gain new cognition in the course of exploring into unknown fields. It's the essence of human thought activities.It's an important task for the reform and development of musical teaching to develop students' creative thought and cultivate their innovative spirit. The goal of the piano teaching in senior normal schools should be expanding students' vision of piano musical culture, cultivating their musical imagination and creativity, establishing modern teaching conception, and training the ordinary musical educational talent familiar with the piano. The paper's topic focuses attention on the relations between teaching the piano and cultivating students' creative thought in senior normal schools. On one hand, as an important component of quality education, musical education is of very vital significance to a person's development and helps to develop a person's all-round personality, edify a person's noble sentiments, and develop students' creative thought. On the other hand, at present the piano teaching in senior normal schools cannot well meet the requirements of quality education in such aspects as curriculum setup, teaching arrangement, teaching methods and study goal. Moreover some piano teachers in senior normal schools lack innovative consciousness and concept, which has hindered the development of students' creative thought. By introducing such theories as musical pedagogy, musical esthetics and musical psychology, this paper demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of cultivating creative thought in the piano teaching of senior normal schools. It also initiates the principles and methods for creative thought teaching in light of the characteristics of the piano teaching of senior normal schools so as to provide beneficial reference for the research and practice of creative thought piano teaching in senior normal schools.Research methods used in this paper: historical research method, literature analysis method, logical analysis method, experience sum-up method, etc.
