Study On Vocabulary System Of Bronze Inscriptions In The Spring And Autumn Annals

Bronze inscriptions of the Spring and Autumn annals appeared in the late period of times, compared with bronze inscriptions in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, those in the Spring and Autumn annals had become more mature both in the character system and vocabulary system. And also as a special transition period in the Chinese history, there were many changes occurred in the fields of politics, economies and cultures during the Spring and Autumn annals. There must be the straight embodiment in the vocabulary system of the bronze inscriptions to reflect the times, so it's necessary to study on the vocabulary system of the bronze inscriptions in the Spring and Autumn annals. By the research on all bronze materials in the Spring and Autumn annals, and assisted focus on the document handed from ancient times, This thesis is meant to complete founding of the vocabulary system to fill up the blanks in the fields.There are five chapters in the thesis. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the background of the research on the bronze inscriptions, and the research meaning and destination of this thesis. By calculating and screening, 353 bronze materials of all 709 materials in the Spring and Autumn annals are chosen as our research object, which eliminate 240 bronze materials that have same inscriptions and 26 ones that combine others, and also 90 ones that have less then two inscriptions.Chapter two is the definition of the word of the bronze inscriptions of the Spring and Autumn annals. Based on the word definition standard of Chinese linguistics and the specificity of bronze inscriptions of the Spring and Autumn annals, we definated 1721 words in all.Chapter three analysis, in great detail, the vocabulary system of the bronze inscriptions in the Spring and Autumn annals. In all, 919 nouns, 286 verbs and 178 adjectives are analysised one by one in different meaning categories. And other parts of vocabulary such as numbers, prepsitions and propernouns are all shown in the tables.Chapter four focuses on the research of the polysyllabic words of bronze inscriptions of the Spring and Autumn annals. 659 words have been definited as polysyllabic ones, which take 38.3% of all words. Then main analysis is focused in the distribution of syllable, word categories and wods meanings of polysyllabic words. And also the deeper research is taken to the aspects of the structure of the polysyllabic words.Chapter five manly summarized the feature of the vocabulary system of the bronze inscriptions in the Spring and Autumn annals, and also have a deeper focus on the measure words in the bronze inscriptions in the Spring and Autumn annals to find out the development trails of the measure words in the Spring and Autumn annals.Anyway, the study of this thesis is just a basic research on the vocabulary system of bronze inscriptions in the Spring and Autumn annals. It is a hopeful expectation that by pointing out mistakes and backdraws of this thsis,more and more experts will focus on the field of vocabulary research of bronze inscriptions and other uneathed documents.
