"Look" and "to-belooked" has always been the contradiction between the "Desire" relations work in the role of female on Television and film. In a male-dominated society, the traditional view is men with dynamic selectivity have the absolute right to speak and look, and women who lack of the right to speak can only be a passive objects , as "an empty signifier" in the film. With the economic and cultural development, the feminist movement is growing, female role in traditional film can no longer meet the needs of the audience, therefore a number of strong, independent, rather masculinity women emerged on the screen. This innovation bring re-examine to women "look" or "to-be-looked" . However, change faces and identity, transplant the wisdom, courage, perseverance and the strong physique male role previously owned to a woman's shoulders can really enable women and men have the same "look" of power, no longer a "to-be-looked" ? This is probably the common questions on mainstream film female role.In this thesis, we talk about "look" and "to-be-looked" in Tsui Hark's film, "look" refers women role with men's cloths, forceful personality and pursuit of love .These innovations can not truly make women to "look" , so we call it the surface of "look" ; "to-be-looked" refers to female role is still "to-be-looked" after analyse scene language and perspective. This attitude reflects the role of the women nature scenes, we call it the real of "to-be-looked" . Thus, we analyse Tsui Hark's works and female role in it from these two parts. We deny female role have real feminist consciousness in Tsui Hark's film, at the same time we affirm Tsui Hark's efforts made in this regard. Even though these women is still a product of male fantasies, Tsui Hark still scored remarkable achievements on the traditional female role innovation in martial arts films. The women, at least in appearance, make a step beyond traditional female ranks and is in the intermediate zone of "look" and "to-be-looked" . Tsui Hark's efforts are worthy of recognition, at least on behalf of the male director's exploration in respect of the expression of female. This shows that feminist's affect in society, so that men increasingly concerned about women. Even while the surface of "look" can attract more social concerns to female, reaching positive feedback.
