A Study On Irrelevant Error To The Objective Of Mandarin Phonetic Test In PSC

As far as the 1st and 2nd question in the standard spoken Chinese level test concerned, many testers think that some phonetic errors made by the examinees is irrelevant to the aim, the syllables which the testers design to examine cannot be tested effectively, and this kind of problem in the first question is more apparent than the second one. Therefore, the dispute about the testing aim and the design is quite a lot.In allusion to this phenomenon, through reanalyzing the theory of the PSC and some problems in the testing practice, this paper puts forward the concept of "the irrelevant errors in the PSC", in addition, taking the concept as point of penetration, this paper puts the relevant theories and methods into practice, firstly examines the validity of the 1^st and 2^nd question in the test, researches them in the qualitative and quantitative way, clarifies and deals with these problems. The following is Research conclusions:I Through examining the criterion-related validity between the 1^st, 2^nd question and the 3^rd , 4th question, the total score, and the different levels respectively, we can see that compared with the 2^nd, the validity of the 1^st is relatively low.II Investigating the response validity of the 1^st and 2^nd question, this paper induces the irrelevant mistakes with the objective of the questions. Moreover, based on the statistics, it confirms that the response validity of the 1^st question is lower, while the 2^nd one is quite ideal.III On the basis of the analyses on the reasons of the objective-irrelevant mistakes in 1^st question, it designs out a new testing pattern: The phonetic testing pattern in 1^st question=(the vocabulary context: the natural storage and the using unit — words and expressions )reading the monosyllabic-character word.IV Contrasting the experimental exam paper in the new pattern of the 1^st question and the national general one, the new pattern is verified to be successful. After the investigation and statistics of respective response validity, and the separate inspection on the criterion- related validity with the 2^nd question, the new pattern is verified that it can improve and enhance the validity of the 1^st question obviously.V Through inspecting the reliability of the parallel exam paper in new pattern of the 1^st question, the reliability is still proved to be high.VI For the influences of the examinees on the experimental exam paper in the new pattern, after the relevant analyses and inspection, we can conclude: Relative to the national general volume, the new pattern one can test the examinees' phonetic level more accurately, especially the young examinees, female ones, and the examinees who gets lower degree. The result just conform the current majority reality.VH For the influences of the testing work on the experimental exam paper in the new pattern, through comparing the spending time, the new pattern is verified that it not only cannot affect the efficiency of the test, but can accurately master the testing objective and improve the testing accuracy for both examiners and examinees because of the hint of the context, and the new pattern one is very practical.VI For setting of the paper in the new pattern, seven principles that should be pay attention to and observed has been found and put forward.
