Quantitative Studies On The Polysyllabic Structures Of Jin Literature

Jin literature in this paper refers to the craved words which were engraved on Shang and Zhou bronze wares. Its dates basically ranges from early Yin dynasty to late Warring States while very rare during Qin and Han Dynasties. Jin literature is the most fundemental research datas in terms of China's language and writing in Shang and Zhou periods. All pervious studies of Jin literature are merely focus on actual examples due to limited research methodologies though its content contains written patterns, grammars, vocabularies, histories things, lacking of overall analysis.This paper, depending on digitalized means, includes all excavated and useful craved words, to observe the features and continuity in later years' existing documents of all polysyllabic structures.This paper contains five chapters. The first chapter mainly concerns with the areas and methods of this research, the present research on polysyllabic words, and the criteria of distinguishing the polysyllabic structure. Some key issues are also explained in this chapter.The second chapter is mainly about the features of polysyllabic structure on Jin literature, which includes a boundary analysis of the attribute on the frequency, structure, grammar function and writing orders.The third chapter mainly reviews the descendent situations of Jin literature polysyllabic structure. The author sums up a total 579 polysyllabic structure that are made into words, and studies the writing orders, frequency and so on.The fourth chapter is mainly based on the 《殷周金文集成》,《近出殷 周金文集錄》 and other people's Dating results, the author sums up the distributing trait of grammatical function and structures of Jin literature polysyllabic structure, and studies its special polysyllabic structure of different times, analyze the distributing traits on high frequency, the synonyms and other polysyllabic structure at different times. This result can become a linguistic standard for the Shang and Zhou bronze wares. Form the culture point of views, the author also briefly analyse the reference values of the Jin literature on Dating works.
