Nowadays, the communicative approach to English language teaching has been widely accepted while the test approach has not been adapted to the change of teaching methodology, which is an obstacle for language teaching and testing as well. Reading serves as a crucial part to evaluate students` language competence and based on Bachman's CLA framework, the paper aims to make a study on how to test students` reading ability effectively. According to relative theories and syllabus of TEM4, the writer designs a reading test which proves feasible through theoretical and statistical analyses.
