The Huns was one of the barbarian nomads in the north Mongolia plain of ancient china, when in the Eastern Zhou period it came into being, and gradually became a real threat to the Ch'in and Han Empire. In order to secure its central power and maintain the stability of its boundary, the Han Empire took different policies in dealing with the barbarian nomads. The policies of the Later Han were on the basis of its predecessor, and combine its position at present, so the policy of Later Han was more representative and reflected the Chinese national policy on the whole. Moreover, it is very important to research the East Han'foreign policy.In this thesis, I discuss the policy of Later Han'in four parts.The first part, its mainly concerns with the policy of defend boundary and appease people which the Later Han took during its prophase. At the beginning of the Later Han'foundation, the social and economic were in decline due to the war, furthermore, Wang Mang'took irrational policies on the national relation, which made the feudatory relation get worse to bad. On the other part, the Huns took this opportunity to re-control the west nations such as the Wu-huan and Xian-pei, and invaded the Later Han's north boundary.
