“The upstream of Weihe River” means the eastern area of Gansu province that from Niao Shu Mountain which is the headstream of Weihe River to Shaan Xi province.After arduous efforts of archaeologists,the material of Archeological investigation and excavation in this area are very abundant,but the systematic research and analysis which based on the entire basin are deficient.This article is based on fieldwork to generalize the cultural characteristics and distribution of sites in the upstream of Weihe River,and according to the literature like Shui Jing Zhu to find out the location of some ancient towns,explain the property of some sites.In Western Zhou Dynasty,the main archeology cultures in this area are Si Wa culture,Zhou culture and Qin culture.Then Xi Rong culture which has obvious grassland features replaced Si Wa culture in Eastern Zhou Dynasty,the distribution as same as which in Western Zhou Dynasty.To the Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty,under the rule of the Grand Unified dynasty,the ruins have a large number of widely distributed,almost covers the entire upper reaches of the Weihe River,The integration of each ethnic groups has become the mainstream.Sites of Zhou culture mainly distributed in the main stream of the Weihe River and Niu Tou River,which Age is the first half of Western Zhou.Sites of Qin culture mainly distributed in the Weihe River and its tributaries,especially in three areas: Niu Tou River,Zhong Tan----Shi Fo Basin,Pan An----Luo Men Basin,which Age is the last part of Western Zhou and all of the Eastern Zhou.Si Wa culture and Xi Rong culture mainly distributed in Hu Lu River,and also a little appear the Weihe River.Sites of Han culture covered all the watershed,one central town here is Fan Jia Cheng site in Zhong Tan of Tian Shui.Based on these,combine the records of Weihe River in Shui Jing Zhu,to infer the location of Gui,Ji and Qin Yi which is the fief of Fei Zi who was the ancestor of Qin,and try to correspond with the archaeological findings.
