Proverb is a kind of wise saying with a committed form and function, which expresses definite willing, belief, emotion, wisdom or experience, and reflects the life, history, religion and customs of a society. Russian proverbs, therefore, as a part of the whole, are of the obvious national charactors, which leads to the importance of cultural factors in Russion proverb translation.This dissertation defined the concept of proverb, and analysed the aesthetic charactors and construction of Russion proverbs. Russian proverbs are committed wise sayings born in Russian history, with beauty and general meaning in them. That is to say, the aesthetic value of a Russian proverb lies in both contents and form of it. Russian proverbs are rich of deep thought and life generalizations, and are beautiful also in structure, voice and rhythm as well as images. It is by trop that the beauty of a proverb is realizedBy comparing the Russion proverbs with Chinese ones, this dissatation advanced five principles for proverb translation. They are: 1. Principle of Efficiency; 2. Principle of Style; 3. Principle of Acception; 4. Principle of Aesthetics; 5. Principle of Equal Change. Forthermore, this dissertation generated 7methods of proverb translation, and proved their efficiency by illustration.
