Linguistics is a subject which studies languages. Most experts of modern linguistics are attracted by oral languages. On the contrary, written languages are paid little attention to and literary languages even less. Some people insisted that linguistics and literature could never be integrated. Actually, a way for this integration does exist, namely stylistics, which takes style as its study object.The study of style has a fairly long history in western world. By the rise of modern linguistics, the study became more in-depth and systemized. Meanwhile, it got more and more close relation with linguistics. After 1958 when stylistics became an independent subject, stylistic research received comprehensive development and boom. Later, different genres of stylistics came into being.In China, there is also a long period for the study of style. At the end of 70s in 20th century, modern stylistics was introduced into China from western countries. After that, stylistic study was developed in China and fruits of it were obtained more and more. However, contemporary stylistic studies, in China, are mainly in those fields for foreign languages. Little research which applied stylistics is done in Chinese literature.In this paper, Chinese pure prose is taken as the object to analyze. Chinese pure prose is a sort of essay rose in the 20s~30s in 20th century. Nowadays, pure prose is still quite popular in China. The language of pure prose is close to oral Chinese but not completely alike. It also has several characteristics of art. Therefore, its owns more literary feature than other kinds of work but does not so like poetry, whose language deviation reaches a degree full of extreme free.The study applying linguistic theory to those chosen pure proses is various. Many aspects are researched, such as the vocabulary and the lexical deviation, unconventional sentences, rhetorical methods, the semantic comprehension of pure prose and the cultural features represented in prose. At last, pure proses in different languages are compared.
