A Pragmatic Study Of Chinese Social Dexis

Social deixis is a typical language phenomenon in Chinese language, especially in letters. This thesis intends to make an all-round analysis from the point of Pragmatics. At first, we make a collection of most social deixis. And then, we analyze the pragmatics effects that social deixis plays in communication.The result reveals that Chinese social deixis appears in two forms: word and grammar .Of the former, rank apostrophe, modest and honorific are the main carrier of dexical message. Rank apostrophe includes: modest title, honorific title and power title. Modest and honorific is a typical social deixis, which includes modest title, honorific title.There are two pragmatics functions which Chinese social deixis plays in communication, the basic one of which is to transfer the social deixical message, the relative power, social distance, intention and emotion. Based on this function, Chinese social deixis is used as a Pragmatics strategy to gain or decrease the listener's face, put their social distance closer or away.
