A Comparative Study Of Modest And Honorific In Chinese Dictionaries On Both Sides Of Straits

Taiwan and China's mainland has been away from each other for a long time.The long period of isolation caused the language difference between the homology people.These differences not only limited the daily communication between the people on both sides of the Strait,but also hindered mutual academic research and exchange.Dictionary is a mirror reflected social life.There are more and more contrast studies on Chinese dictionaries and even special dictionaries on both sides of the Straits.Especially,there is a wealth of literature of the researches on vocabulary.With the promotion of “Chinese poetry contest” and “the reader” in the CCTV,It's a brand new start of our cultural life.More and more Chinese live in a elegantand cultural life,and modest and honorific becomes a part of our elegant culture.The research of the thesis belongs to the field of lexicography.This paper uses an entry point of modest and honorific included on “Modern Chinese Dictionary”(Edition 7)and“New Mandarin Daily News Dictionary”,make a comparative analysis of modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries from the aspects of collection,annotation,examples provided and pragmatic information,in order find the difference of the Chinese dictionaries on both sides of the Strait.Through those differences,we can find the different language situation of people on both sides of the Strait.Thus,this paper can not only offer reference to improve the regulation and science ofdictionary compilation,but also offer help to bridge the communication gap between the people on both sides of the Strait.There are five chapters in this paper,and its main idea is as follows:Chapter one is the research on the criterion of lexical entry of modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.Firstly,it introduced the current modest and honorific include situation of the two dictionaries.Secondly,the author makes a thorough categories study to the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.Then,the author focused on the modest and honorific only included on one dictionary and made a summing up of the modest and honorific included features on the two Chinese dictionaries.Finally,the author analyzed the causes of the differences?Chapter two is the study of the interpretation of the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.This chapter compares the interpretation of modest and honorific included on both of the two dictionaries.In the comparison of difinitions,there are three cases: the first one is the "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(Edition 7)has more definitions than the "New Mandarin Daily News Dictionary";the second one is"New Mandarin Daily News Dictionary" has more definitions than the “Modern Chinese Dictionary"(Edition 7);the third one is the number of definitions in the two Chinese dictionary is same,but the content of the interpretation is different.Based on the theory of lexicology as well as the linguistic facts of the large-scale balanced corpus,this paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of these two definitions and analyzes the different causesof the different definition interpretations in the two Chinese dictionaries.Chapter three is the study of the example usage of the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.Firstly,it discusses the relationship between the interpretation and the example usage and the role of the examples,and then makes a detailed description of the example usage of the two Chinese dictionaries.Finally,the author compares the example usage of the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.Chapter four is a comparative study of the pragmatic information about the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.The main purpose of modest and honorific is to be used for communication.The dictionary can effectively guide the dictionary users to use modest and honorific by highlighting pragmatic information.This chapter summarizes the usage situation of the pragmatic information included on the two Chinese dictionaries,and then gives a comparative analysis of the specific differences and merits of the use of pragmatic information in the two Chinese dictionaries.Chapter five is the analysis of the causes of the differences in the collection,annotation,examples provided and pragmatic information of the modest and honorific included on the two Chinese dictionaries.
