We investigated the Indonesian learners' acquisition of stops and affricates of standard Chinese by perceptual listening analysis and acoustics pattern analysis, and got some conclusions:Firstly, Indonesian learners usually mispronounce the dental affricate, retroflex affricate and alveolo-palatal affricate to the post-alveolar affricate and they cannot master the distinctive feature of aspirated and unaspirated well.Secondly, we found that the VOT and length of aspirates pronounced by the Indonesian learners is obviously shorter than that of the Chinese, but longer on the unaspirates. This reduces the difference of the aspirates and the unaspirates. Meanwhile, the initial-finial pattern of the Indonesian learners is not so appropriate. The closure length and voice interval of the Indonesian learners are much longer than the Chinese. We also provide some teaching suggestions on how to teach the Indonesian learners to pronounce the stops and affricates of standard Chinese.
