Among numerous Chinese films that focused on the old shanghai , there have been so many films directed by almost all modern Hong Kong directors that focused on the old shanghai ,or performed the old Shanghai stories and set the 1930s' shanghai as the film's background. Some famous directors such as Ann Hui. Tsui Hark , Stanley Kwan , Wong Kar-wai have been constructed a "Old Shanghai" imagination in their films, by a outsider's point of view. These films no only made large success in the box offices, but also constructed old Shanghai imagination. As far as this phenomenon is concerned ,we claim it the old Shanghai imagination in Hongkong films.This dissertation is to probe into this phenomenon through this consumption society, we rediscovered Hongkong film developing history, and analyzed thoese directors and their films which contends the old Shanghai, then we found that old Shanghai and Hongkong , the twin cities, had cultural, movie art and psychological connections, besides,that also is a cooperation betweens commerce and culture. As a kind of industry, film must follow commercial rule in this consumption society. In fact, that is a intentional contruction in Hongkong films drawing old Shanghai's picture. These films attract people attention by the styles of screen images, and these films and history stories is just conform to people's demand in consumption society.
