This paper is about Hamblin's fallacy theory resting upon the growing contemporary fallacy study in China, footed theoretically on the fallacy study at the time of Hamblin. The author systematically analyzes and reviews the Hamblin's criticism of "The Standard Treatment of Fallacy", considerations onthe deficiencies of traditional argument study, and The Formal Dialectic------thefallacy evaluation tool Hamblin put forward. Finally, systematic considerations are made on the significance and influence of the Hamblin's theory of fallacy from the positive response and critique, and Reveals its inherent problems and recently reviews its developmentThis paper has been divided into four sections:In the introduction, the author reviews and summarizes the contemporary study of fallacy in China, upon this, made explanations on the intentions and significance of the subject matter of this essay and briefly talked about the major idea and framework of the paper.Chapter one is a brief introduction to the Study of Fallacies prior to Hamblin. It mainly includes Aristotle's fallacy of Dependent on Language and Outside Language, Bacon's "four Idols", Locke's "Arguments ad", Whately's Logical and Non-Logical Fallacy and Mill's Deductive and Inductive fallacy. These Achievements constitute the so-called standard understanding of the fallacy.Chapter two concentrates on Hamblin' theory of fallacy on four aspects: Firstly, a brief introduction is made to Hamblin and his work "fallacy"; Secondly, the author gives a detailed explanation to " The Standard Treatment of Fallacy " from the prospect of fallacy definition and classification, and systematically sums up the Hamblin's criticism to " The Standard Treatment of Fallacy " from three aspects, which are the definition of fallacy, classification and the connotation and denotation of fallacy; thirdly, the author introduces Hamblin's criticism on traditional argument study and the multiple standard of argument evaluation form three aspects; Finally, From the prospect of theoretical foundation, main features and specific applications, the author gives detailed analysis and comments on the new method of fallacy — the Formal Dialectic.Chapter three is mainly some explorations to the significance and influence of the Hamblin's theory of fallacy from the positive response and critique, and reveals its theoretical value and the problems, on the other hand, reveals the contemporary influence of Hamblin's theory of fallacy by reviewing the Post-Hamblin study of fallacy. The author reviews the Post-Hamblin study of Fallacies, briefed on the Formal Dialectic of M.Barth and C.W.Krabbe and Walton's New Dialectic, concentrated remarks are made on present day influential Pragm-dialectical theory of Van.Eemeren and R.Grootendorst.
