Though fallacy research has never become the center of the study of logic, it is not a flash in the pan, and after the prosperity or deserted stages, the heritage remains exuberant vitality. Both eastern and western fallacy studies began early:western fallacy theory began with Aristotle while fallacy theory began in the pre-Qin period. Eastern and western fallacy theories have their own characteristics. As a whole, Western fallacy is more consistent and systematicrelatively. Western fallacy research has focused on the classification of fallacy, such as Aristotle’s classification of fallacy language was based on the language. Whateley started analyzing fallacy from argumentation angle which gradually being logic. Mill, who was in Whateley’s later period, had anunique and innovative fallacy theory which differed from previous research methods and was related to scientific theories to a certain extent, and put forward inductive fallacy clearly, establishing comprehensive fallacy theory.Mill’s fallacy theory is in the fifth volume of his master work A System of Logic, in which he gave a classification of fallacy which is easy coming up in the front and rear of scientific research and a detailed explanation. In the late Qing Dynasty, Yan Fu translated the book in the name of "Mill’s Logic" which had a profound impact, since then there is no other version in domestic. But Yan Fu’s translation focused on paraphrasing, to express his own logical concept, and most importantly the fifth volume wasn’t translated. From the1960s and1970s, the domestic fallacy study began to flourish, and in the earlier period, the fallacy of foreign research process was introduced, at the same time, some researchers proposed new types of fallacies, but the research about Mill’s fallacy theory was rare, basically simply to refer to.This thesis consists of four parts. The first part introduces the fallacy theory before Mill, Mill’s life and A System of Logic; the second part elaborates Mill’s comprehensive fallacy theory, including his definitions about fallacy, basis of classifications and five fallacies based on the comprehensive fallacy theory; the third part analyzes some of the characteristics and limitations of Mill’s comprehensive fallacy theory, and then the fourth part analyzes the impact caused by the Mill’s fallacy theory and proceeds a further reflection.
