The self-concept, an individual's perception of one's every aspect, is a multi-dimension, multi-level structure with an appraising function which can separate the individual from others, In the period of university, an individual develops rapidly in all aspects. It is a period in which an individual grows from juvenility to maturity. The level of the student's self-concept and the kind of coping styles the students adopt may affect and even decide his adulthood lifeBased on over views off or mere research, the Coping Style Scale and the Tennessee self-concept Scale are used, 445 university students were investigated to explore the self-concept and the relation to coping style.The results show: l)In general, the students possess the positive self-concept and coping style. 2)Girls have a significantly higher self-concept score on the aspect of moral-ethical self, personal self, self satisfaction than boys.3)Students from urban have a significantly higher self-concept score on the aspect of social self than student from rural. 4) Single child have a significantly higher self-concept score on the aspect of social self, psychology self, self satisfaction than sibling. 5) the total self-concept show "u" structure, the level of the secondary grade is the lower.6)Girls have a significantly higher coping style score on the aspect of seeking help than boys.7)The positive factors of the self concept had significantly negative relation to the passive coping style, but had significantly positive relation to the positive coping style. The situation of the negative factors of self concept was just reverse to the before mentioned fact.From the results, we conclude that 1) Sex differentiation of the self-concept the college students is significant, the females are superior to the males. 2) Differentiation of the self-concept the University students between urban and rural is not significant.3) Differentiation of the self-concept the University students between single-child and sibling is not significant .4) Grade differentiation of the self-concept in the University students is significant.5) Differentiation of the self-concept the University students between male and female is not significant University students'self-concept has significant correlation with all aspects of coping styles.
