Study Of Affecting Factors Of Suicide Ideation For Students In University

Objective: To comprehend the situation of mental health and investigate the positive rate of suicide ideation among university students. Study the related factors to suicidal ideation among college undergraduates, to evaluate the relationship between intensity of suicide ideation and life event, cope style, personality and self-concept. Supply the key information for prevention and provide basis for its early interventions.Methods: By using questionnaires with multistage stratified random cluster sampling method, 942 valid questionnaires of 1000 were backed from the university students in Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan Teacher's University and Shanxi University. This study were surveyed and analyzed by questionnaires with scale of general status, Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale, Adolescent Self-Rating life Events Cheek List, Coping questionnaire, Eysenek personality Questionnaire, Wallace Self-Concept Scale.Results: The total incidence of suicide ideation in university students was about 11.46%,The investigation show: 1,The general status: In different gender, grade,stress, the style of family, the rate of suicidal ideation of male is higher than female. The students of much pressure or single-parent families existed suicide ideation rate than others. There was no significant difference of the studengts having suicide ideation in different school, hometown of students, whether is the one-child. 2,Analysis of affecting factors: [1]There was significant difference between the different strength of suicide ideation and the interpersonal relation in life event, study stress, and others(disliking study, financial straits). The factors of punishment, loss and healthy adaptation were'nt significant different. The higher the average value of the above affecting factors the interpersonal relation, study stress, and others,the more the college students with ideation of suicide. [2] There was significant difference between the different strength of suicide ideation and the problem solving, self-accusation, asking for help, fantasy, retraction, rationalization. The higher the average value of the above affecting factors the coping style. the more the college students with ideation of suicide. [3]There was significant difference between the different strength of suicide ideation and the extraversion, nervousness , psychoticism, lying. The higher the average value of the above affecting factors the personality, the more the college students with ideation of suicide. [4] There was significant difference between the different strength of suicide ideation and self-concept. The rate of lower self-concept is higher than other. 3, The logistic regression analysis showed that: gender, grade, the style of family, stress, solving problem, self-accusation, study stress, psychoticism, entered the equation, and are the main affected factors of the suicide ideation. 4, Path Analysis in risk factor of suicide ideation of college students: path analysis reveals that formation of suicide ideation is influenced by several factors both directly or indirectly.Life event is an indirectly factor, which influence suicide ideation through self-concept and personality. Self-concept and personality can influence suicide ideation directly and indirectly. They influence suicide ideation through asking for help and self-accusation.Conclusion: The rate of suicide ideation is high among undergraduates. Suicide ideation was influencd by several factors.Screening out the affecting factors for suicide ideation will play a warning role for discovering the susceptible group early.It is also the key point for us to prevent or reduce suicide behavior.
