Some Research On Yuan Zhen's Official Documents

Yuan Zhen (779-831), whose polite name is Weizhi or Weiming, is born in Luoyang City, Henan Province. He is an outstanding writer on official documents in Tang Dynasty. He has been engaged in politics for 23 years, successively holding some important posts such as: the censor, academician bachelor, prime minister, Shangshu left assistant and so on. His"Yuan Zhen's Long Celebration Collection"includes 30 article volumes and 5 addendum volumes, in which there are many official document types such as ce, shu, biao, zhuang, zhigao, pan, yi, zou and so on. It almost contains all official document types in Tang Dynasty. He is so pivotal in the Chinese official documents history that his official documents deserve our attention. Most scholars have concentrated on his poems and novels but neglected his prose, especially his official documents. This thesis attempts to study his official documents, which can deepen people's understanding him, and is helpful to reveal his role in the development of official document and to give his due, and to fill in some blanks in Yuan Zhen's study. Through studying Yuan Zhen's official documents, we can stimulate the research on official documents theory in Tang Dynasty and enrich the article study theory. Meanwhile, because the official documents belong to the article study category, this thesis'combing Yuan Zhen's official document theory can deepen the article theory research in Tang Dynasty.This thesis can be divided into six chapters. Chapter one elaborates on Yuan Zhen's official document writing course; chapter two and three analyze separately his official document type writing style; chapter four discusses the ideological contents of his official documents; chapter five narrates and comments his official document theory;chapter six discusses the artistic features of his official document writing.In brief, this thesis has underscored his official documents achievement and the contribution through studying his official documents. It provides a new method and the achievement for the article study research. Through studying Yuanzhen's official documents writing and theory, we can get a general survey of the primary condition of Tang official documents writing theory, and has complemented the research insufficiency on Yuan Zhen.
