Parent Effectiveness Training which is one parent-training program to train effective parents was developed in 1962 by Dr.Thomas Gordon, who is one famous American psychologist. The object of the program is to increase parent effectiveness for bringing up children with healthy personality ,self-control, responsibility and warm heart by changing traditional parenting concept, teaching parents two basic principles which are inconsistency and problem-belonging and three communication skills which are active listening ,I-message and no-lose conflict resolution. The dissertation starts from the social , educational and the psychologic background, then further assesses and analyzes the object and content and analyzes the psychological factors in the program. The dissertation focuses on the use of interpersonal skills in P.E.T. to make three communication skills better understood. The dissertation summarizes and analyzes the P.E.T. evaluation literature home and abroad from the study method and effect of P.E.T. .Furthermore, three parent training programs with different theory orientations are analyzed comparativly which are humanistically based P.E.T., behaviouristicly based Thriple P(Positive Parenting Program) and S.T.E.P.(Systematic Training of Effectiveness Parenting) which straddles humanistic and behavioural paradigm. The dissertation evaluates P.E.T objectively: P.E.T. was one meaningful parent training program ,while it still has some flaws such as focusing much on skills and opposing awards and punishments completely etc. For the different background from western countries and the flaws in P.E.T.,it will be inappropriate and dangerous to start P.E.T.courses in China without any change. Some suggestions are given to make P.E.T. more available in China in the final part of the dissertation.
