A Study On The Sentence Completing Ability Of "Shao+VP" Construction In Modern Chinese

This article discusses the representative construction "Shao+VP" in Modem Chinese which is formed by the predicate-phrase modified by the adjective "Shao". Based on Mr.Xing Fu-yi's theory of Clausal Pivot, this article makes a mutti-angle anaylsis by theory of Two Triangle.This paper is divided into three main parts :The first part of discusses "Shao+VP" on the ability of sentence-completing in simple sentences. Drawn:"Shao+VP" can plus four moods to survive to a simple sentence. Mood types have a effect on the ability of the sentence-comleting: Imperative mood>Declarative mood>Interrogative mood>Exclamative mood; Imperative Mood "Shao+VP"sentence can express eight semantics, "VP" contains 20 structural forms. Declarative mood and Interrogative mood "Shao+VP" sentence can only express a semantics, "VP" the structure is only one form. Exclamative mood "Shao+VP" sentence can only be a semantic expression, "VP" contains two words "you(有)" and "jian(见)" .In 7 basic structure forms, the survival ability of VN phrases is strongest. The survival ability of coordinate phrases and the phrases containing two-function member are the weakest.The second part discusses "Shao+VP" on the ability of completing a clause, and compares with the ability of sentence-completing in simple sentences. Drawn: In theory, "Shao+VP" structure can survive to a clause with four moods. But the actual inspection Interrogative mood "Shao+VP" can not find examples. Mood types have a effect on the ability of the sentence-completing: Imperative mood > Declarative mood > Exclamative mood. Symmetry Construction can help "Shao+VP" survive.The third part compares the construction "Shao+VP" with the construction "Bie+ VP", drawn : "Bie+VP" structure only can plus Imperative mood. The survival "Shao +VP" and the survival "Bie+VP" have similarties and differences on semantic types. Structure types of "VP" also have similarities and differences. "Shao+VP" clause can express more diverse relation meanings. In the style, "Shao+VP" has more features: it often is used in some news style appeals slogans, and the heading and so on. It can indicate multi-adverbial enumerative.
