To investigate the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of people who have high or low self-esteem, we have done two successful experiments. In the first experiment, we select the dimensionality of explicit self-esteem, that is, to study the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of people who have high or low explicit self-esteem. First, we use Rosenberg explicit self-esteem questionnaire to select 24 high self-esteem subjects and 24 low self-esteem subjects. All the subjects have a test in English words. We respectively divide high explicit self-esteem subjects into group A,B and low explicit self-esteem subjects into group C,D according to their scores in the test. Then we use films to induce positive emotion on subject A,B and induce negative emotion on subjects C,D. Then all the subjects have another test in English words, this test has the same difficulty as the former one. At last, we use F analysis and T test to verify the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of all the subjects. The results are as follows: (1) the people of low self-esteem are not influenced by positive emotion; but after they are influenced by negative emotion, their memory are improved;(2) the people of high self-esteem are influenced by both emotions: their memory are improved after positive emotion and decline after negative emotion;(3) the interaction of emotion and self-esteem is significant. In the second experiment, we select the dimensionality of implicit self-esteem, that is, to study the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of people who have high or low implicit self-esteem. First, we use the means of birthday number preference to select 24 high self-esteem subjects and 24 low self-esteem subjects, other procedure are the same with the first experiment, that is, all the subjects have a test in English words. We respectively divide high implicit self-esteem subjects into group A,B and low implicit self-esteem subjects into group C,D according to their scores in the test. Then we use films to induce positive emotion on subject A,B and induce negative emotion on subjects C,D. Then all the subjects have another test in English words, this test has the same difficulty as the former one. At last, we also use F analysis and T test to verify the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of all the subjects. The results are as follows: (1) the people of low self-esteem are not influenced by positive emotion; but after they are influenced by negative emotion, their memory are decline;(2)the people of high self-esteem are not influenced by positive emotion; but after they are influenced by negative emotion, their memory are decline. These two experiment not only explain the influence of positive and negative emotion on the memory of people who have high or low self-esteem, but also validate explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem are two different dimension.
