Intensive teaching is the main course in the TCSL. It is a comprehensive course for training the students'listenning, speaking, reading and writing skills.Textbooks are the basis of teaching, and texts are the main part of intensive textbooks. Compared with other lesson types, the dependence of the intensive teaching on texts is stronger.This paper selects six intermediate Chinese intensive textbooks that have been published since 1980s as study objects. According to the basic principles of compiling textbooks and some related theories of assessing textbooks, adopting the ways of data-collecting statistics,this paper analyzes the present compiling conditions of the six sets of textbooks from the following four ways: the length of the texts; the theme of the texts; the style of the texts and the difficulty level of the texts. On this basis, the paper analyzed and discussed the deficiencies existing in the six sets textbooks in the four perspectives, indicates the items that should be put into consideration in the process of compiling texts, and offer suggestions for further improvement.The author pointed out three characteristics of the intermediate Chinese intensive textbooks. Firstly, the quantity of the new words and the length of the texts should be matched reasonablely to form a rational new word density. Secondly, the theme of the texts should use daily life and deeds of characters as the main themes. Thirdly, the style of the texts should use narrative writing as the main style.At the end of this paper, the author described the new characteristics of the intermediate intensive textbooks, and summarized the items that should be paid more attention to when compiling new intermediate intensive textbooks.
