As a key part in the quality education of our country's highereducation,music education popularization has a long history and muchrealistic significance at present;It has much to do with professional musiceducation and differs a lot from the latter as well.This paper, from acontrast angle,probes deeply into its history.Current situation andcharacters that make it distinctive from professional music education.This paper consists of two chapters.The first chapter—OnPopularizing Music Education—reviews vertically history and tradition ofour country's music education,and discusses significance and value inpopularizing music education in current situation,including the auther'sconsideration into its current teaching.From 4 aspects,such as functions,models, developing process and characters of the teaching;the secondchapter—On Characteristics of Music Education Popularization from aContrast Angle—sets forth the characteristics of popularizing musiceduation teaching with refereaces to the professional music education.Thekey part is the second,which gives a detailed and deep interpretation toconcepts,tasks and goals,course arrangements and the teaching'scontents,teaching procedure,teaching methods,objects and subjects ofteaching and teaching assessment.Therefore this paper draws aconclusion that popularizing music education teaching can help improvethe overall quality of a nation and also extend the quality education of thewhole nation's education system.Its essential characteristic is itspopularity, which emphasizes the inner attainment of students,not thetechnique level that is insignificant and even may not be acted asassessment project.Its popularity requires more varibus and vividteaching ways and flexible assessment.
