In the book "The Art of Colors", Johannes Luiz Dayton writes:"Color existed in the primitive time and was a birth of colorless lightand relative colorless darkness." A total of human life get out from themost primitive instincts and impulse of color, which shows thepossibility of development of all kinds of colors and the directions ofhuman evolution of civilization in different regions. "Red" of China issuch a color that grows gradually as Chinese history and culture develop. Its visual system is not in a single line, but based on the philosophy ofmulti-level, multi-angle, and has distinct cultural identity and the visualsymbols of human hierarchy in a special state. Therefore, this simple"Red" becomes an important carrier and symbol for Chinese emotionwith the changes and accumulations in culture and the heritage ofgenerations.Theoretically based on "'Red' culture of China", this researchaims to promote the understanding of "Red" and achieve its inheritanceand transcendence in Modern Visual Communication Design bymulti-angle studies about "Red" from the aspects of history, culture, aesthetic culture and folk culture and the analyses about its applicationin visual communication design. The main content and characteristicsof this research are as follows:1. Describing the historical and cultural origins of "'Red' cultureof China", the first chapter of this text reveals clearly its developmentthrough its application in different dynasties and aircrafts, whichforeshadows the following arguments.2. The second chapter mainly deals with "'Red' culture of China"from two aspects. One is having some understanding of "Red" fromcolor culture in china through the exploration of _尚红_. From the colorcharacteristics, the second aspect mainly does research on four different colors, especially the psychological study about color, which provides atheoretical basis for the design.3. ChapterⅢtransversely describes the application of "'Red'culture of China" in colorful folk culture performance. It summarizesthe application of "Red" symbolic significance in folk beliefs, folkfestival, civil marriage and childbearing civil costumes, folk art, civilconstruction. Its wide application provides a substantive reference andenlightenment for visual design.4. "'Red' culture of China"'s application in visual communicationdesign is the key section of this paper, Here "'Red' culture of China"is divided into two levels: First, is a spiritual symbol; second, is anessential factor in visual sense. Centered on these two aspects, the fourthchapter gives examples and then analyzes each of four typical aspects. We now see that the designer is working on trying to bring the "'Red'culture of China" traditional elements cleverly applied to the design, thereby enhancing traditional thinking and modern concepts of collision, while the "Red China" value undergoing profound changes.5. ChapterⅤputs forward the idea that "'Red' culture of China"has been considered in the visual communication design. From thesuccession and innovation of the traditional culture in the moderndesign, we truly understand that new creation should draw on theexperience of cultural heritage. Therefore, "'Red' culture of China"needs exploration, arrangement, protection and inheritance, innovationand development. Then we can extract the idea which has more nationalintension and implication about modern visual design.
