Education is the derivative of the culture and the internal need of theculture development, which can conversely boost the cultural advance.Therefore, the study on education cannot be done without studying thecultural backgrounds. In China, the lack of culture in the photographyeducation is rather severe. How to carry out the cultural propagation andinheritance in photography education is an issue for research withrealistic value.This paper points out at first that the lack of culture in photographyeducation in China is due to the overall lack of culture in our moderneducation. Based on the current situation of our photography education,this paper then analyzes the lack of culture in the fundamentalphotography education of advanced education, professional photographyeducation and photography education in the public quality education.Next, this paper compares the cultural backgrounds and thecorresponding concepts and patterns of photography education indifferent periods and different countries in order to study the culturalpropagation and inheritance in photography education.Based on the above comparison, this paper provides suggestions toimprove out photography education. Specifically, in the field ofphotography education in the public quality education, the government should construct photography museums to boost the propagation anddevelopment of our photography culture. In the field of professionalphotography education, we should improve the educational system at theresearch level in our professional photography education, introduce ourphotography culture together with emphasizing offering the culturalcourses, and reinforce international communication. In the field ofphotography education in the fundamental education of advanced artdesign, we should take the fundamental photography education as one ofthe fundamental courses in the image education to design and develop therelated courses, emphasize the design of enlightening cultural issues, andoffer selective courses of applied photography in related fields.
