Xin Qiji gave expression to his heartfelt contradictions at the different stages of his life through his Ci. For example, he felt ambivalent on whether or not to go and offer his services to the government of Nan Song Dynasty. He had an imperative desire for fighting Jin Dynasty and restoring Song Dynasty, but the two dynasties were being military confronted for a very long period. He was forced to live in seclusion, which hindered his aspiration. Though being plaintive, he still had hopes. He suffered agony and at the same time tried every means to mediate it. Xin Qiji was not only inflexible and zealous but also sensible and calm. The zeal was reflected in his fevered aspiration, strong self-consciousness, chivalrous qualities, his willingness to sacrifice his life to his country, his ardent love of the beautiful landscape, and his description of the surprising dreamlands and myths. That he had an ardent loyalty to his country all his life represented his inflexibility. His sensibleness and calmness were reflected in the aspect that he never attached much importance to seeking fame and wealth. The image of himself in his Ci was a profound meditator full of enthusiasm. All his characters resulted in the unique style of his literary expression, i.e., taking complicated, tortuous, intemperate and refined expression style as its primary and plainspoken as its secondary. The primary style was reflected in the use of the figure of speech, implicit negation, gulping down his sorrow, taking a sudden turn at the last sentence, ect. The stormy situation of the time had entrusted to him a lofty realm which had gone beyond insignificant individual. It was the complex disposition and the contradictory circumstances of desiring for striving but being blocked which established the deepness and wildness of its emotion world that made Xin Ci achieve its peak, and made Xin Ci complicated, intemperate and refined, full of simple and vigorous artistic conceptions. The contradictory characteristic made his Ci about rural life not only have a unique style but also display strong feelings. Xin Ci achieved the emancipation of the writing style of Ci-writing Ci in prose's way, which made a breakthrough at using flowery languages and writing Ci in poem's way.
