Head For Modern From Tradition

Yan Fu is not only an important person but also an epoch-making forerunner in theChinese modern history. Yan Fu is often regarded as a translator in the modern researchesabout him, and the comments about him are mostly presented from the macroscopicaspects at present and people mainly study his family background although themicroscopic aspects have involved as well. It is obviously inaccurate to deeply analyzethe development of his thoughts and its reason from the angle of both macroscopic andmicroscopic view based on the special tum from Yan Fu's traditional thoughts to modernones. By means of structures and action theories on the basis of the analytical angle ofboth macroscopic and microscopic view, this article tries to analyze the reasons from YanFu's traditional thoughts to modern ones before he was in Tianjin. In this period, Yan Fu'sindividual action was a kind of typical society activity from his traditional thoughts tomodern ones, which goes to modernism. He broke and changed the traditional socialstructure and the cultural restrictions continuously, and made full use of the resourcesimbed in the social structure, to realize the change of his thoughts by virtue of hisresponses to the social changes and realize his modernization by virtue of his continuesstudy and social intercourse. This article mainly discuss the way to break structuralrestriction through Yan Fu's individual activity and to realize the change from histraditional thoughts to modern ones before he was in Tianjin, and also arrange again andanalyze deeply the reasons and its insignificance of the change of Yan Fu's thoughts inthis period.
