The Study On The Adapting And Appending Songshi In Jizhuanti Style By Scholars In Ming And Qing Dynasties

Song shi has the most volumes and the most various content in The Twenty-FourDynastic Histories. It was amazing that Song Shi was finished compiling in no morethan three years. However, the book was criticized by later scholars for its poor dataprocessing. From Yuan to Qing dynasty, several scholars tried to adapt or append newmaterials to it, and some of them succeeded. The trend of adapting SongShi originatedfrom Zhou Yili of late Yuan dynasty, which became a fashion in mid-Ming dynasty,and kept going on in Qing dynasty. During the several hundred years, there wereabout twenty scholars devoting themselves to adapting or appending new data to SongShi.Focused on three works: Song Shi Zhi, Song Shi Xin Bian, and Song Shi Yi, theauthor tried to investigate the historiography of Ming and Qing dynasty. The formertwo works were adapted from Song Shi and had the same confine and stylistic rules asit, while Song Shi Yi was appended by Lu Xinyuan of late Qing dynasty, Through thecomparison among the three works and Song Shi from various angles, expounded andproved the irreplaceable status of Song Shi in the history of historiography.
