Viewing from the angle of life poetry, this dissertation shows a deeper analysis in respect of the ignominious life of Hu Lancheng and his pursuit of vast but clear and watery ambit of poetry and esthetics, as well as the interaction and counteraction built between the above mentioned two factors. By contrast between the person himself and his work, this dissertation aims to first of all expound why Hu Lancheng, a person with political aspirations and cultural mission, could only describe the "harmonious and happy world" and the "terrestrial scenery" through literature; and then to explain how and why he exerted himself in figuring a pure world with neither goods nor evils and the particularities and defects of such a pure aesthetic world, in which Hu Lancheng reposed thousands of his ideas. In particular, this paper narrates the course that how Hu attempted to transit from the said pure aesthetic world to a realistic ethical world to erect his main personality, which, however, finally dilapidated.By analyzing Hu Lancheng's intertwined journey of life and poetry, a whole process can be seen in which how a sordid but vivid soul pursue self-redemption, a place to settle down, self-allegation and people's forgiveness and understanding in the special way of culture and literature. And the useful analysis of Hu's life poetry can also help to present and refresh the complexity and ambiguity of Chinese history and culture.
