Talk About Zheng Qiao

Zheng Qiao, who lived in 12 centuries, is an outstanding historian and literature scientist in Chinese history. All his lifetime he was engaged in academic research, lived in countryside for tens of years, went through much trouble, depended on his own astonishing perseverance and constant purse, experienced the decade to visit and beg books and the hard process of writing books for 30 years, 40 years like one day, made firm resolution to read books, kept writing, obtained a plenteous result, the books which could be test to reach nine types of 57 kinds, but the most were lost, now we can see Tong Zhi, Jia Ji Yi Gao, Er Ya Zhu, Shi Bian Wang, Liu Jing Ao Lun and some scattered passages. Among them, Tong Zhi is the hugest works. Tong Zhi, 200 volumes, more than five million words, condenses his whole life strenuous effort and energy. The whole book is made of six parts: ji, zhuan,lue, zhi, pu, biao, noble family and zai ji, its record rises after San Huang and ends in Sui dynasty, each lue records till Tang dynasty, It is a huge works after Si Maqian's Shi Ji, shows great life of jizhuan system. Tong Zhi·20 Lue is not only his best volumes, but also the cowry of Chinese ancient times learning heritages. Tong Zhi·20 Lue shows theories visual field and academic knowledge which can see 100 generations. He said proudly 20 Lue is "the total academic world", "the 100 charter of generations, the scholar's ability matter, fulfill here." That is to say, it contains all important academic types of Chinese nation's long history development, and he said,"its 5 lue, Tang dynasty's Confucians can get; its 15 lue,Hang tang's Confucians can't get." This not only gathered together his whole life's knowledge, but also it is the huge works in Chinese cultural field. Tong Zhi is thought highly of by people all the time, made great influence in Chinese cultural field, the posterity calls it "san tong" with Du You's Tong Dian of Tang dynasty and Ma Duanlin's Wen Xian Tong Kao of Yuan dynasty. The ancient scholars have ever thought " if the private doesn't read san tong, he will not pass." Form this we can see Tong Zhi has an important meaning in our Chinese history.Tong Zhi is a history works with great history's value, its history system produced important influence to the history boundary, such as Continuous Tong Zhi, Qing dynasty Tong Zhi, Wen Xian Tong Kao and other works of nine tong, their style absorb the result of Tong Zhi. 20 lue provided plenty of detailed reference for the posterity, it not only provided precious history data for people, but also put forward many valuable methods and opinions for how to collect historical data, store the historical data and collate historical data, etc. these opinions, not only have important reference value to the research history, but also have a great practical value to collect books and arrange catalogue for books' storehouse.In addition to the synopsis introduces Zheng Qiao's Tong Zhi and historical value, the thesis shallowly talked Zheng Qiao's contribution to catalog, Jiao Chou Xue, Yi Wen Lue,Jin Shi Lue and Tu Pu Lue of his famous works Tong Zhi can be regarded as the classic of our classic bibliography, he put forward the principles, the methods and the classify of writing books which had a great function to future generations bibliography research. Zheng Qiao's contribution to Jiao Chou Xue has two aspects: The first is to extent the scope Of Jiao Chou Xue, the second is to set a perfect system for Jiao Chou Xue. As for his writing language's thought and achievement, I mainly talked his Liu Shu and form of Chinese theories.On the foundation of fore person's research, this thesis analyses historical thought and value of Tong Zhi and Zheng Qiao's thought and achievement on catalog, Jiao Chou Xue and written language. The past research is mostly to Tong Zhi the whole huge works and a certain aspect, this text point lies in summary Zheng Qiao's position and influence in our history.Zheng Qiao is a worthwhile and advertent person in Chinese history. He has great enthusiasms, very wide field of vision, very wide wishes, to be engaged in knowledge, and he is really an outstanding and different person in adhering strictly to the typical model but lacking the actual notion of Chinese educational circles.
