On Fan Zhong-yan's Friends-making And His Fu

Fan Zhong-yan is the famous politician,litterateur,ideologist of North-song Dynasty. Since more than 1000yrs ago, glorifications on his gets,strategy,character and scholarship had never been interrupted. Collections of Fan Zhong-yan, which is the most integrate material about Fan Zhong-yan, is collected by scholars of SiChuan University. It contains not only all the works of Fan and the comments on his works and himself, but also some introduces of connected history vestiges. Base on this book, my paper rescan all Fan Zhong-yan's life chiefly, inspected about his friends-making factually,analyzed his works of Fu impersonally,so as to describe a more real people,feel the comments on him by the ancients .First of all, to a politician, the most important thing is the way he deals with officialdom. From the whole life of Fan Zhong-yan, his official career was all right with several small waves. Yan Shu recommended him an official position, which became a milestone in his following life, and then he experienced three demotions. Later, he was promoted as Privy Council because of meritorious service, and preside"Qing-li Reform". During these ups and downs, he had no complaint; instead he matured a bit every time and firmed his grate belief."Sit on the high position", he did his duty of speaking strictly without afraid;"Stand in the faraway", he fulfilled his responsibilities of making his people live happily without reservation. Being an official in the court, he had the country in mind; handing some regions, he benefited his people; receiving orders in scrape, he dedicated all his efforts. These show the highest bourn of a politician.Second, as a pure litterateur, Fan Zhong-yan isn't eligible, because of his works especially odes, most of which has already become the tools of his demonstration. Though contents,orderly ways,skills of his odes are not in the shade compared with others'works. For example, Fu of Loving People,Fu of agriculture,Fu for Jun-zi,Fu for Friendship and so on, the content of which are for so called affairs-managing and country-fathering. At the same time of course his written aims are not deviated from ambitions, but to give financial help to the world and country. In fact, this point just reflected on his long-range ambitions, which he strived for wherever. He never gave up any opportunity that he can touch, so he was strict with himself, meticulous, unremitting.In addition, since one lives in the society, he must have intercourses with others all the time. Because he was an officer, he would have more intercourses with his higher-up, colleague and underling. It is estimable that Fan Zhong-yan didn't lose himself in the corrupt officialdom which bureaucrats shield one another and deceive both superiors and subordinates. He made friends widely; even clergy in mountain and recluse in forest were his best friends. Every-way he thought friendship should be wateriness,amity,faith. He would plead for his friends innocence without considering the safe of himself (plead for Teng Zong-liang),but he would not ignore the law for one's complaint (he didn't recommend Mei Rao-cheng). No matter what he did, he would put him in the last. So in the reform process, people would like to let him be their leader.Thus,when Xi Xia invaded our country,Fan Zhong-yan went easy to receive the task of confronting Xi Xia. He considered of both conditions, and then put forwards a recovery stratagem which takes defends as attacks. Serious discipline, drilling army, constructing the cities and comforting the border people, these measures came from his deep considerations. He was worth to other's trust and a Son of Heaven's entrust. After the war, Fan Zhong-yan carried out new policy called Qing-li Reform. He put forward ten things which covered every aspects in the society, such as agriculture, imperial examinations, army, field and so on, which can be deemed to summing-up of his officialdom life, because he wanted to construct a peace country by this reform. Qing-li new policy was a reform to save North Song Dynasty. Though it lost for some blocks, he made great efforts for his ideal. For this reason he had the happiest terminal life in Deng state.In summary,Fan Zhong-yan grew in Confucianism. The thought of Confucianism's ethics is the important spiritual in his life, which consistently revealed in his article and official. The whole life of him was contributed to his idea and ambition as a politician, contributed to innovation as an ideologist who was taking a long-range approach. Because of the situation in that period he lived, Fan Zhong-yan had the wit of politician, the talent of litterateur and the insight of ideologist, who is the person the God chose to lead the innovation.According to the documentary experiences of him, this article re-appears a real ancient with no effort, and then keeps people off the fault of samara. After discusses of his career,communication and tour, it analyses his Fu deeply, then we have known him partly. But his communication and tour are extremely widespread, and the considerable amounts of prose and poems requiring further study. Only then, his words and deeds are basically replayed, and his work are comprehensively analysis, which is helpful for us from myself standpoint to consider truly his every word and deed and to know him truly, but this still owed to certain combing with the analysis work.
