Although an important part of China's traditional culture, Fengshui has been derided and criticized by some scientists for a long period, because it was listed as superstition and witchcraft. However, science 1980s, a few scholars have begun to do dialectical and systematic research on Fengshui, which initially changed the view that Fengshui is superstitious. This paper defines Fengshui as follows: It is not superstition, but a kind of learning on how to choose the environment of residence and bury, with rich connotations, it includes not only the location and configuration of house, village and city, but also the location and construction of tomb and mausoleum, as well as the rebuilding and restoration of the unideal environment. After briefly elaborating the theoretical base of the Chinese traditional theory of Fengshui, and introducing the geomantic tools and the methods of using them, this paper illustrates the applications of using Fengshui theory into the location and configuration of tombs and houses using examples with modern magnetic, psychological, and philosophical theory, this paper confirms the reasonable components of Fengshui, meanwhile, points out its superstitious components. This paper aims to set up a discipline of Fengshui, explaining the main contents, attributes and values of Fengshui discipline, and proposing that Fengshui theory should be improved over time. Fengshui theory would have broad prospect of being applied into tourism planning and development, urban planning and architecture.
