Hongloumeng, the most warmly received literary work in the 20th century China, has attracted the attention of multitudinous literature amateurs. Studies and comments on Hongloumeng, if collected completely in together, can cause the ancient Chinese idiom "huge collection of books" to lose its exaggeration. Viewed from the point of academic history, Hongloumeng undoubtedly is comparable to other contemporary famous doctrine like "Inscriptions studies on oracle shells"or "Dunhuang studies". Regarding Hongloumeng and its author, scholars of different generations have made exhaustive studies and obtained amazing achievements. However, some basic researches, such as the implications of Hongloumeng, still remain disputable. The paradigm of Red-ology was put forward by Ying-Shih Yu in the late twentieth century when Red-ology research came to a critical point. Based on Thomas S. Kuhn's paradigm theory, Ying-Shih Yu tried to find a new way of studying Hongloumeng from the historical point of view. The Two Worlds of Hongloumeng has attracted attention in the society since its publication, but most criticisms focus more on approval of his views than on breakthrough in his methodology. With Thomas S. Kuhn's paradigm theory as the theoretical basis, this thesis explains the paradigm theory, and analyzes the relation between paradigm theory and The Two Worlds of Hongloumeng, and the importance of understanding "history of academic viewpoint ", "crisis" and "paradigm" in analyzing the modern Red-ology and pursuing new ways of research in Re-dology.After carefully examining the loss and gains of those scholars who concentrate on the origins of Hongloumeng and what is reflected in the novel, the author analyzes the background and the significance of Ying-Shih Yu's paradigm of Red-ology, and discusses breakthrough of his theory in the methodology, and feasibility of understanding Hongloumeng in the cross-culture context. And finally, the author summarizes the significance and the influence of Ying-Shih Yu Red-ology methodology and his contribution to the comparison poetics.
