| The contemporary works by Wang Anyi, a woman writer from Shanghai, and Chi Li, another from Wuhan and their observations of the urbanization in China are studied comparatively and their considerations on and attitudes towards modernization and urbanization are discussed both in general and in detail. Then, it is concluded that their ideas are more different than similar, possibly because of their different family backgrounds, different living environments and different experiences.
