As a norm and medium-sized Chinese dictionary, "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" is one of the most authoritative Chinese reference books currently. Since "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" (5th edition) has marked every word class clearly, it is of epoch-making significance and has exerted a major influence on the field of language and lexicography.The adverb is an important class in Chinese vocabulary. It has aroused researchers' widespread interest for its uniqueness, and therefore it is always a hot spot in language study.Firstly, this paper defines and classifies the adverb. Secondly, mainly through comparing and analyzing the adverb definition in five editions of "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary", this paper summarizes the change in definition of the adverb in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" and reveals the influence on the definition of the adverb after the word class mark in the 5th edition, and illustrates the improvement of word definition in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" (5th edition). Meanwhile, this paper pays attention to whether there are some slipped places in word class mark in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" (5th edition) in order to offer some consulting suggestion for the further revision of "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary".
