The modal adverb is a special class of words in modern Chinese adverb. But for a longtime, people don’t pay enough attention to the modal adverb, research for the modal adverbhas not yet fully. In addition, grammar circles each sticks to his argument on someproblems of the modal adverb, not enough systematic research on modal adverbs papers.Therefore, modal adverbs as object of study, The paper select the "The Contemporary ChineseDictionary"(6th edition) as a closed corpus, exhaustive statistics of modal adverbs which, andits classification, and analysis of modal adverbs grammatical function and semanticexpression, in order to promote understanding of modern Chinese modal adverbs.First chapter, it is divided into three sections: The first section, mainly narrates thegeneral situation of research of the modal adverb. As a kind of adverbs, modal adverbs arespecial, grammar for its discussion, the paper around five aspects: The status of the modaladverb in modern Chinese, name of the modal adverb, classification of the modal adverb, theresearch on the modal adverb in recent years, and reviews and sorts out the research status of"The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary". The second section, it introduce themain content, the research method of this dissertation, on this basis, grammatical function andsemantic analysis. The third section, the value and significance of the main topics. Modaladverbs in modern Chinese is of great research value, a modal adverb classification andgrammatical, pragmatic, semantic features of some problem is worthy of discussion. Forthe investigation of the modal adverb is necessary, These research results can be usedto guide and classification of adverbs. Conversely, the study of the adverb can test rationalityon classification research and features research for the modal adverb.The second chapter, focusing on the definition and thewords of the modal adverb. The basic contents are asfollows.The first section, this paper only selects the definition ofmodality innarrow sense, on the other words,representation, status, appearance, metaphorical meaningofadverbs as object of study, such as "Qinzi","Guyi","Chenji" and other words. Based onthe modal adverb definition and definition of understanding, combined with the interpretationand description entry "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary", respectively from theperspective of syllable structure,semantic respectively narrative. as the modaladverb classifying, we respect for the scholars classification, adjustment and integration ofmodality adverbs "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary". It is classified according to theprinciple of it,"The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary" modality adverbs are divided intofour categories, four categories respectively:1, table class. Such as "Baizuir","Liansheng","Suishou" and other words, this kind of word is the main part of the modal adverb,mainly used to represent the type associated with the behavior of the human body, facialfeatures, thinking mode.2, the state class. Such as "Aibanr","Chengji","Duli" and otherwords, this kind of words mainly used to represent the type associated with the behavior ofthe time, location, numberof thestate.3, expression profile class.Suchas "Baibai","Fanran","Yangchang" and other words, this kind of word is used to describe the associated with certainbehavior appearance.4, compare the class table. Such as "Baiban","Huotuor","Shisi" andother words, this kind of word in parables or exaggerated way to highlight certain behaviorof meaning and image.The fourth chapter, grammatical function and semantic expression of the modal adverb.This chapter is divided into two sections: The first section, mainly introduces the grammaticalfunction of the modal adverb. The modal adverb mainly grammatical function is used tomodify verbs,in the statement is often used as adverbial, or modified the whole sentence,or modified the predicate of a sentence; some modal adverbs can be used as the synthesisof the predicate with "Shi......de "; modal adverbs can modify some noun, and composite "Themodal adverb+noun" mode of expression. In addition, Some modal adverbs have appeared in the "On/Among/Under……" conditions, for example,"Shixian","Bingjian","Dali" andother words.The second section, mainly introduce semantic expression of the modal adverb in"TheContemporary Chinese Dictionary".This part mainly includes four aspects: First, modaladverbs are generally not only, Strong adhesion, only when the modal adverb, is restrictedby certain conditions, and can be used separately in the ellipsis. Four, semantic pointing of modaladverbs: The internal situation of the modal adverb is complex. Therefore, it is verydifficult to determine the semantic pointing. In the language practice, modal adverbs canpoint to the agent, patient or something.
