With the development of economic globalization and China's entry into WTO, the business volume with foreigners has witnessed a great increase. Accordingly, commercial contract translation is showing more and more importance. It is, therefore, necessary to study commercial contract translation from different perspectives. As one of the branches of applied or pragmatic translation, commercial contract translation has been studied from many perspectives such as stylistics and functional equivalence theory. We are glad to see that a lot of translation strategies and principles have been put forward to guide the translation practice of commercial contracts. The author offers a new perspective-to study commercial contract translation from the perspective of skopos theory. At present, skopos theory has extensively been applied in a variety of fields of applied translation such as advertising translation, film translation, and trademark translation, etc. However, when it comes to commercial contract translation, few of people have published their essays on this issue, let alone in-depth researches. The author finds that skopos theory is also fit for the analysis of commercial contracts and thus sheds light on contract translation.Under the guidance of skopos theory, the author first analyzes the translation process and brief of commercial contracts; and then according to the communicative function, identifies the text type of commercial contracts with the aim of exploring the translation strategy; at last, probes into the principles and methods of translating commercial contracts. In a word, this thesis is to study commercial contract translation from a new perspective-skopos theory, and probe into its translation strategy, principles and methods in the hope of providing a general guide for commercial contract translation.
