Practice Report On E-C Commercial Contract Translation Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the accelerated process of world economic integration and the further deepened China,s reform and opening-up policy,China's economy is developing continuously,and China is becoming more and more close to international world because of the increasing Sino-foreign joint ventures.In the process from inquiry,offer,business negotiations,drafting of the English business contracts,assigning agreement to the final implementation,the English business contracts play an important role as legal texts in proving the agreement between the parties.In the process of implementing English business contracts,when both parties have different views,these business contracts become important documents with legal effect,which can resolve the differences and protect the interests of both parties.The need for the translation of such business contracts provides challenges and opportunities for the translators.During the internship in Fuzhou Huanong Investment Co.,Ltd.,the translator gets an opportunity to participate in the E-C translation of three business contracts,and the practice materials include Mutual Confidentiality Agreement,Commercial Agent Agreement,and Distributorship Contract(hereinafter referred to as"translated materials").The translated materials are professional texts with legal effect and in formal and serious style and they belong to informative texts.The contents stated in the texts stipulate the rights and obligations of the signatory parties.This translation task requires the translator to pay attention to the translation requirements of the clients.This is consistent with the concept of Skopos theory.The translator chooses Skopos theory to guide the translation and hopes that under the guidance of Skopos theory,he can convey the information faithfully and satisfy the purpose of the clients.This practice report first introduces the background of the practice task,summarizes the current research status of Skopos theory at home and abroad,introduces the research purpose and significance of E-C translation of the translated materials,introduces the research problems and research methods,and outlines the overall structure of the practice report.Second,it describes translation task and translation practice,introduces the background of the translation task,explains the contents of the translated materials,analyzes the translation requirements given by the clients,and describes the translation preparation,translation process,and the modification and correction after translation.On this basis,the report introduces the linguistic features of the translated materials,analyzes the lexical,syntactic and textual features of the translated materials.Next,the report introduces Skopos theory,focusing on the main viewpoints of the Skopos rule.It also points out the guiding significance of the Skopos rule to the translation,which paves the way for the analysis of the following part.Finally,the report uses Skopos theory to guide the E-C translation practice,elaborating problems and solutions in the translation process respectively from the syntactic level and discourse level,and mainly analyzes how to use appropriate translation strategies to improve the translation quality,so that this report can provide some reference for the translation of English business contracts in the future.
